We seek a capable and dynamic religious professional for a full-time position as our Director of Lifespan Religious Education and Faith Development ("DRE") beginning in 2014 July. We seek someone who can function as a member of our ministry team, in partnership with our minister. Applicants should have a background in Unitarian Universalist religious education, a knowledge of UU curricula and educational models, and organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience in multigenerational worship or anti-racism/anti-oppression/multiculturalism work is a plus.
Community Unitarian Church ("CUC") is a vibrant congregation, focused on its mission to
- Nurture each other in our spiritual journeys,
- Foster compassion and understanding within and beyond our community, and
- Engage in service to transform ourselves and our world
Located in White Plains, NY in the Metropolitan New York area, we are a half-hour train ride from Grand Central Terminal, Manhattan.
Our minister, the Rev. Dr. Meredith Garmon, joined us in 2013. He is deeply committed to lifespan religious education and faith development. He'll be a supporter and occasional helper with the children's and youth programs and a collegial collaborator with our new DRE in developing multigenerational worship services, and re-visioning our Adult RE program.
We have a thriving youth group and a strong Sunday morning RE program, serving over 120 children/youth.
We typically have children's chapel in our Fellowship Hall from 10:00 to about 10:25. Children and youth have classes until 11:30. Alternatives to this pattern include: Sundays in which the children and youth begin in the Sanctuary and stay through a "Wonder Box" story before recessing to class; and multigenerational family services in which the children and youth are in the sanctuary for all of the service. We are in the process of re-examining how many "Children's Chapel" Sundays, how many "Wonder Box and Recess" Sundays and how many "Family Service" Sundays to have each year.
Compensation, Benefits, and Time Off
We are committed to fair compensation for our staff. We are "Mid-Sized II" congregation in Geo Index 6. Within UUA Fair Compensation Recommendations, salary will be based on credentials and experience.
We also offer benefits including health insurance, pension plan (10% of salary through the UUA Pension Plan), and professional expenses.
The position includes 4 weeks of paid vacation in the summer and 2 weeks of paid study leave annually. One Sunday each month the DRE is relieved of Sunday duties.
Sabbatical: After 5 years, the DRE is eligible for a 10-week paid sabbatical.
